Visa Requirements

You will study in Minnesota on a F-1 student visa, and must maintain full-time enrollment during the summer. Six credits is considered full-time enrollment for non-degree students at the University of Minnesota.  The University will issue you an I-20 which you will need to take to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate to apply for your visa.

More information on the process of obtaining a visa is found on our International Student and Scholar Services page. Please contact us with any questions.

Class Credit and Transfer

Students can earn 6-10 undergraduate credits during the summer session.

Upon successful completion of the Minnesota Summer Session, you will receive an official University of Minnesota transcript which includes the classes, credits, and final grades. If you are interested in transferring the credit back to your home institution, you must speak with your university's international office about the correct process. We recommend you confirm this prior to submitting your Minnesota Summer Session application.

The U.S. Department of Education provides information on how credits and grades are structured.
